The last time I made these was for a themed teacher luncheon years ago but I only did kabobs. This time I added hamburgers and steaks :)
Gummy bears, Parchment paper or wax paper, sparkle gel, candy melts, food color,
toothpicks, and edible markers
I tested a few different things to trace and the lid to my large sprinkles worked the best for size. Melted and mixed black candy melts and white candy melts. I used a #2 tip and placed parchment paper over my template and traced grill tops :)
Yummmmm! {{drooling}} Chocolate cupcakes from scratch!!!
Cut the gummy bears apart into threes. Hubby thought I was having an anger issue and not sure why I was cutting the heads off gummy bears. Haha!
I made these kinda fast and now looking at the pic they look like more like poo patties then hamburgers....ummm....I'm glad I added the cheese :)
I used a large freezer bag, cut the corner and used a large icing tip.
Colored my icing yellow and orange and alternated colors when filling the bag. I don't like dark colors or red since they stain kids teeth/mouth :/ I opted for Wilton Sparkle Gel for red.
Great for cupcakes but doesn't dry well so I would not recommended it for cookies
Added the grill tops (so cute!)
Mini hamburgers (some with cheese and some without,) kabobs, and steaks.
All made from candy melts except the kabobs.
Ahhhh..... the REAL grill! We had a fantastic time and the food was awesome!
LOOK! The Two Busy Blondes
My favorites guys!
Thank you for stopping by!

Love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! What reciepe did you use for the cup cakes and icing? And what size cup cakes? Then what did you use to make the hamburgers and cheese??? Thanks so much!!! -Summer
ReplyDeleteHi!! I love this! What did you use for hamburger parties & cheese?!! Thanks :)
ReplyDeleteIn the article it says she used melting chocolates for the burgers, cheese, and steaks.
ReplyDelete@ Summer, I will type recipe and share. @ Carolina, I used candy melts (sold at Micheal's Craft Store or bake shop.) They are made by Wilton and can be ordered online. Depending on the time of year I would recommend not having them shipped during hot summer months. They come in a bunch of colors and easy to use. @ Kristin, Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteWould you recommend making these the day of? I have a BBQ coming up but I have a lot of food to prepare the morning of and was wondering how the grills would hold up over night or if they'd be ok? I love these!! Thanks for your help!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!! The chocolate stays the same if you make these grills and the toppings a week in advance and put in a zip lock. I wouldn't put in the fridge (store room temp) since they get sticky with condensation coming back to room temp. I would do the gummy bears the night before and ziplock as well so they don't get hard. Cupcakes (even with icing) will do well over night.
ReplyDeleteI love food that looks like food it really isn't! (if that made sense) So cute! You should consider entering these into the Dessert Challenge on Instructables: http://www.instructables.com/contest/dessert/
